Gálvez calls on Executive to include Public Ministry in unified anti-crime front

Peru's Attorney General, Tomás Gálvez, formally requested that the Government incorporate the Public Ministry into the Unified Command created by the Executive to combat organised crime, according to gestion.pe.

The request was made during the international seminar "Public safety in Peru: responses from the State, the private sector and citizenship", organised by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

"In this Unified Command created by the Executive, we have requested that the Public Ministry also be included", Gálvez stated at the gathering.

At the same event, the head of the Public Ministry described public insecurity as the principal problem currently facing the State.

Gálvez also noted that the National Police and the Armed Forces must strengthen their intelligence and counter-intelligence capabilities to prevent possible leaks that could compromise the strategy against organised crime.

Furthermore, he highlighted the creation of the Unified Command as a key mechanism for articulating a coordinated response against criminal gangs operating in the country.

"For this strategy to work we must certainly commit the community and its institutions. It is no longer a matter solely for justice administration organisations, but rather a matter that involves all of society, the State and its institutions, as well as civil institutions", the attorney general stated.

Finally, Gálvez called on the population to maintain confidence in the work of the authorities responsible for combating organised crime.
