Adolescent wounded by gunshot in operation on Peru Avenue; police officer detained
A 14-year-old adolescent was shot in the jaw during a major police operation on block 41 of Peru Avenue in Callao, according to a report by larepublica.pe. The minor was immediately transported to Daniel Alcides Carrión hospital, where he remains hospitalised under observation due to the severity of the injury.
The incident occurred whilst officers from the National Police were executing the intervention. In that context, an exchange of gunfire reportedly took place, and one of the projectiles struck the adolescent in the face.
The minor's mother stated that her son was returning home with some classmates when the incident occurred. He was not part of any of the parties involved in the operation, according to her account.
Following the episode, a police officer was detained at the facilities of the Criminal Investigation Department (Depincri) in Bellavista. Personnel specialised in investigations arrived at the scene to collect evidence and testimony that would allow them to establish how the shot was fired.
The investigation seeks to determine whether the projectile that struck the adolescent came from the exchange of gunfire that occurred during the police intervention, and to clarify the corresponding responsibilities.
