A tragedy has unfolded in Augustów County, in which a six-month-old boy is fighting for his life in a Białystok hospital. The child has undergone surgical intervention and remains in a state of pharmacological coma. Doctors describe his condition as very serious.
Initially, it was reported that the infant had fallen or been thrown from a pram. However, investigations by the Augustów prosecutor's office revealed a far more alarming sequence of events.
"The child's father threw him on the floor," prosecutor Sebastian Piekarski, head of the District Prosecutor's Office in Augustów, told Fakt.pl.
The incident took place on 10 June in one of the villages near Augustów. An ambulance was called by the child's mother, who requested help for her son. Upon arrival of the ambulance, the child was transported to a medical facility in Białystok, where he was immediately subjected to surgery.
Officers detained both parents. Investigators suspected from the outset that harm had been caused by the 27-year-old father. The actions carried out confirmed these suspicions.
The mother was questioned as a witness to the incident and released to her home. Criminal proceedings have already been initiated against the father. The man has been charged with attempted murder in conjunction with causing serious bodily harm. During questioning, he admitted to the offence he was accused of.
The court decided on the temporary arrest of the suspect for a period of three months. If found guilty, he faces a sentence of between ten and thirty years in prison or even life imprisonment.
