The Regional Court in Augustów has issued a decision to remand a 27-year-old man in custody for three months. The man is charged with attempted murder of his own six-month-old child.

The incident occurred on 10 June in one of the villages in Augustów county, according to the District Prosecutor's Office in Suwałki. According to investigators' account, the father allegedly pushed the child towards the floor. The mother called the emergency services, and the infant, in critical condition, was transported to a medical facility where he remains.

Officers detained both parents. The woman was interviewed as a witness to the incident and released. The man was charged with attempting to deprive the child of life in connection with inflicting serious injuries on him.

If found guilty, the perpetrator could face imprisonment for between ten and thirty years or life imprisonment.

In the Augustów region, this is the second case of brutality against a minor in the last six months. In the first month of the year, a 41-year-old man attacked his six-year-old daughter with a knife in the premises of his former partner. The girl sustained wounds, and the attacker was placed in a psychiatric hospital due to mental health problems. Today the child is in the care of her mother.
