Drug Division officer faces charges for unauthorised access to evidence

Puerto Rico Police Superintendent Joseph González Falcón ordered the summary suspension of employment and pay this week of officer Jean Emil Rivera Hiraldo, badge 37972, assigned to the Drug Division of the Metropolitan Area, according to sanjuandailystar.com.

The measure was taken after a court found probable cause to arrest the officer for aggravated damage linked to an incident in the evidence room of the Juan Domingo Precinct in Guaynabo.

"I have ordered the summary suspension of employment and pay, effective immediately, of officer Jean Emil Rivera Hiraldo, after a court found probable cause for his arrest for aggravated damage, as a result of an investigation by the Special Investigations Bureau (NIE)," González Falcón said Tuesday in written statements.

According to preliminary information, the facts occurred during the night of Sunday, when Rivera Hiraldo allegedly forced entry to the evidence room without authorisation to access the location. A supervisor found him at the moment of the incident.

The officer posted the $10,000 bail imposed by the court and was released whilst the legal process continues. The preliminary hearing was set for 3 November 2026 at 8:30 a.m. at the Bayamón Court.

"The Puerto Rico Police will continue to collaborate with the NIE and will attend to the corresponding administrative processes. We will not tolerate actions contrary to the law or the ethical principles of our institution," the superintendent said.
