Former Doble A pitcher killed in Caimito
Alexander Bruno Pastrana, 45, a former pitcher and coach for Doble A baseball in Puerto Rico, was shot dead on Tuesday evening at El Jobo grocery store, located on Avelino López road, kilometre 3.9, in Caimito, San Juan, according to primerahora.com.
A call to the 9-1-1 Emergency System alerted authorities to a serious assault. Upon arrival, officers found Bruno Pastrana lying on the ground with several gunshot wounds. No arrests have been reported in connection with the case.
The circumstances of the crime remain under investigation. Rafael Pérez, an agent assigned to the Criminal Investigation Corps (CIC) of San Juan, along with prosecutor Félix Rivera, took over the case.
Bruno Pastrana was the father of infielder Alex Bruno, from the Pescadores del Plata of Comerío. During his career as an amateur pitcher, he wore the uniforms of the Cariduros of Fajardo, the Jueyeros of Maunabo and the Bravos of Cidra, in addition to playing much of his career with the Comerío team.
In 2010 he set a record of 10 saves in a 20-game regular season with Comerío. Last year he had returned to active baseball as a coach for the Cariduros of Fajardo, under the direction of Roberto "Concord" Santana.
