A jury sentenced Michael Gallegos-Martínez to 22 years in prison for the death of Roseanna Martínez, which occurred on 16 April 2022 in San Juan, Texas, reports telemundo40.com.
Police responded that early morning, at approximately 1:28 a.m., to a call at 700 E. Carroll. Upon arrival, they found Roseanna Martínez on the ground, next to a black Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Gallegos-Martínez, identified as the driver of the vehicle, was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter by intoxication and aggravated assault, after being accused of hitting the victim and causing her death.
Daniel Flores, Roseanna's uncle, described a six-year relationship marked by constant violence. "He had her threatened every day. He always hit her. But because of the threats, my daughter didn't report anything," Flores stated. The victim left four children.
For the Martínez family, the judicial process was prolonged and emotionally exhausting. "It has been very emotional for the family. But now we can say that justice has finally arrived," Flores expressed, whilst at the same time lamenting the weight of the loss: "No matter how much time they gave him. My daughter is gone from us. He took her from us."
