Investigators from the Judicial Police attended the municipal offices in Cascais on Tuesday, 2 June, to gather evidence related to alleged economic and financial crimes. The operation focuses on direct awards and public works tenders.

In addition to the municipal headquarters, eight search warrants were also executed on the same day as part of the same criminal proceedings.

Contacted by PÚBLICO, the municipal authority confirmed that it handed over documentation relating to agreements concluded in the period between 2018 and 2021. According to the same source, the documents concerned multiple agreements with different companies, all of them public works contracts and previously disclosed on the Base electronic platform.

The team that carried out the searches belonged to the National Unit for Combating Corruption, a structure within the Judicial Police tasked with investigating crimes of corruption, embezzlement, fraud and related offences.

The municipal authority stated that it had fully cooperated with the inspectors, providing the requested information.
