Man shot dead in Amadora in revenge for conviction in Carcavelos
Lisbon's Judicial Police detained two suspects for killing a 43-year-old man and wounding his son, victims who gave evidence at a trial for a shooting on Carcavelos beach.
Father killed and son shot for testifying in court
The Judicial Police (PJ) in Lisbon detained two men suspected of shooting dead a 43-year-old man and wounding his son in the Amadora area. According to Correio da Manhã, the victims had testified in legal proceedings against a friend of the suspects, who was convicted of a shooting on Carcavelos beach in Cascais.
The original crime dates back to 29 June of last year. A 21-year-old became involved in an argument with restaurant employees on Carcavelos beach and fired a weapon, wounding an employee and a customer. He fled the location with the weapon—which the PJ was never able to recover—but was later arrested and held in preventive custody. He was ultimately sentenced to three and a half years in prison, with the sentence suspended, for attempted aggravated homicide and possession of a prohibited weapon. He is at liberty and has no connection to the crimes now under investigation.
Revenge in two phases, both in Amadora
The retaliation against the witnesses occurred on two separate occasions, already this year. On 4 April, a young man was shot in the abdomen in the Amadora area and required hospital admission. The suspect in that attack was arrested last Tuesday and is already in preventive custody.
Weeks later, on 21 May, the father of the victim encountered his son's attacker, also in Amadora. He was struck by three shots and died in hospital. The perpetrator of this second attack was also arrested and is likewise in preventive custody.
Suspects with serious criminal history
A police source told Correio da Manhã that the two men now detained are considered very dangerous. Both have criminal records following previous arrests for serious crimes, cases that continue under investigation by the Public Prosecution Service and the Judicial Police.
Weapon from Carcavelos shooting never located
The weapon used in the original shooting in June of last year was taken by the defendant when he left Carcavelos beach. Despite investigations carried out, the PJ has been unable to recover it to date.
