Father detained in Portel accused of thousands of sexual abuse and child sexual abuse material crimes
A 35-year-old man detained in Portel, in the district of Évora, is accused of more than 7,864 sexual crimes against children, including his own daughter, the Public Prosecutor's Office (MP) revealed in a statement released on Thursday. According to Observador, the information was made public through a statement from the Regional General Prosecutor's Office of Évora.
The accused is accused of at least 864 aggravated child sexual abuse crimes, with his daughter as the victim, currently 13 years old. To these are added more than 7,000 aggravated child sexual abuse material crimes, with the same minor included "in the list of victims".
The Judicial Police (PJ) detained the man in flagrante delicto on Tuesday. On Wednesday, he was presented for initial judicial interrogation at the Court of Évora, which ordered his remand in custody. The accused was subsequently taken to Elvas Prison, in the district of Portalegre.
According to the MP, the accused lives in a de facto union with the victim's mother. The household also includes another child, a 10-month-old baby. The abuse is believed to have occurred at the family's home.
"There is strong evidence that the accused, at least since 2019 and until the date of his detention, sexually abused his daughter, from the age of 6 or 7, through the practice of sexual acts of significance," the MP statement reads.
The practices were filmed and photographed, with the accused having made "such recordings available through computer platforms accessible to an indeterminate number of people," according to the MP.
At the time of detention, the man had several electronic and computer devices with him and at his residence. On these devices were found "thousands of files containing images and films of children and young people, aged under 14 years, in erotic poses" and "in explicit sexual acts".
The MP sought the application of remand in custody and a ban on all contact with the victim, the mother and the brother, citing "the dangers of continuation of criminal activity, disturbance of the investigation and public alarm". The investigating judge accepted the measures requested.
The investigation continues under the direction of the MP in the Department of Investigation and Criminal Action (DIAP) of Évora, with the assistance of the PJ.
