Stepfather detained in Mêda for sexual abuse of minor stepdaughter
The Judiciary Police (PJ) detained on Tuesday in Mêda, district of Guarda, a 33-year-old man strongly suspected of crimes of sexual abuse of children in aggravated form, with his 9-year-old stepdaughter as the victim, reports CNN Portugal.
According to a statement sent by the PJ to the Lusa agency, the crimes occurred in September, inside the family residence, in the minor's bedroom, "at a time when both the mother and younger brother were asleep".
The investigation originated from a complaint presented by the child's mother to the GNR in Mêda, which then alerted the Judiciary Police. Inspectors from the Criminal Investigation Department (DIC) of Guarda executed a detention warrant issued by the Public Prosecutor's Office (DIAP) of Guarda.
The PJ collected "sufficient probative elements" that allowed rapid conclusion of the investigation. By judicial decision, the minor was removed and protected from any potential continuation of the abuse.
The detainee appeared for initial questioning at the Judicial Court of Vila Nova de Foz Côa, being subject to weekly presentations to a criminal police body, surrender of passport, and prohibition of contact with the victim. The investigation is being handled by the Guarda Public Prosecutor's Office.
