A police operation in Gelnica district ended with injuries to a 21-year-old man, whose relatives accuse law enforcement of police brutality. Rebeka Polláková, the sister of the detained man, posted footage online and claims that officers beat her brother, kicked him and caused him a fracture to his lower limb. According to her account, emergency services were called only after several hours.

The official version from the authorities differs. Police officers were carrying out a court order to bring a wanted person into custody to serve their sentence. The man was found in a vehicle during night hours, but as the patrol approached, he jumped out of the car and fled. Officers fired warning shots into the air and searched for him using a dog and a drone.

The following morning, shortly after four o'clock, they spotted the wanted man again in a car. After stopping the vehicle, a passenger ran from the scene and fled towards a paddock fence. "He probably injured his leg while jumping over the two-metre fence. He was subsequently restrained by police officers using force," stated the Košice regional police headquarters.

Given the conflicting information in the media, the regional headquarters leadership ordered an inspection of the operation's course. The inspection service office is also investigating the case. If misconduct by the officers involved is confirmed, further steps will be taken.
