A violent criminal offence occurred in the village of Gelnica in eastern Slovakia on Friday afternoon. A woman without signs of life was discovered at the scene. According to television Joj, it was a 47-year-old Zuzana, who was allegedly killed by her husband. The tragedy occurred in a house which the couple used as a cottage.
The Košice regional police initially announced a search for a person and vehicle. The wanted man was said to have left the scene in a grey Škoda Octavia car with registration number GL 055AX. Police warned the public not to approach the vehicle and not to address the person.
The search ended successfully on the same day. "The person who police searched for today in connection with the violent criminal offence in Gelnica was shortly ago restricted in personal freedom by a patrol of the Čaňa police station on one of the country roads in the Košice area," police stated on social media. They expressed gratitude to the attentive public for their assistance and sharing.
According to published reports, the perpetrator had previously served time in prison for dangerous threats. He was said to have been released only recently. The deceased woman worked as a teacher at a primary school.
Police officers are currently carrying out the necessary procedural measures with the arrested man. They promised to release further details when the procedural situation permits.
