Police officers seized a shipment of nearly 1,700 kilograms of cannabis hidden in two vans in Lara. Those responsible fled and are being sought.

In the state of Lara, in the west of the country, agents of the Venezuelan Police succeeded in seizing 1,697 kilograms of marijuana. The Ministry of Interior and Justice announced the operation on Monday.
The drugs were concealed in two pickup-type vehicles. In total, 2,237 packages were found: 899 kilograms in one unit and 798 in the other. Those driving the vans fled before being apprehended. Officers continue to comb the area to locate them.
This discovery comes shortly after another operation in Táchira, a state bordering Colombia. Early this month, three men were detained by Venezuelan military when they allegedly were transporting 527.7 kilograms of narcotics—marijuana and cocaine—according to a report from the Bolivarian National Guard. In that procedure, three automobiles were also seized.
Official figures show an escalation in seizures. During 2025, more than 65 tonnes of narcotics have been confiscated by the country's authorities. Of that volume, close to two-thirds was cocaine destined for the European market, the National Anti-Drug Superintendent specified in December.
Regarding international cooperation, Caracas and Washington agreed in February to join efforts to combat drug trafficking in the region. The agreement emerged from a meeting between interim president Delcy Rodríguez and the commander of US Southern Command, Francis Donovan.
