Mother calls for justice after security guard dies in La Retraite stabbing
Kaieteur News reports that Salome Boyce, the mother of slain security officer Nicholas Boyce, is demanding answers after her 38-year-old son was allegedly stabbed to death along La Retraite Public Road, West Bank Demerara, on the night of Friday, October 30, 2026.
Boyce, who was employed as a security guard with Sheriff Security, is believed to have died between 21:00hrs and 22:30hrs, shortly after completing his shift. His body was found wearing his uniform, his haversack still on him.
At around 23:15hrs, Salome Boyce — who lives in Corriverton, Corentyne, Berbice — received a telephone call informing her of her son's death. She immediately travelled to the West Bank Demerara.
"I asked where is his wife, and they said the girl and her brother kill he. I want to know if they had a problem, or what occurred," she told reporters.
At the mortuary, where she formally identified her son's body, Salome said she observed what appeared to be knife wounds to his neck and a laceration behind one of his ears.
She also visited the police station, where she encountered her son's common-law wife as the woman was leaving the building. Salome said she recognised her immediately.
Nicholas Boyce had relocated from Corentyne to Georgetown approximately three years ago and had been in a relationship with the woman for roughly nine months. His mother said she had never been aware of any dispute between the two.
"I need justice for my baby. He is just 36 and 11 months. If he had a problem with her, she could have called me and tell me. I would have collect my son, than killing he. It hurt me very much. This is the first child out of ten that I got to bury. I'm vex. They could've given me him back alive without killing he. It's very, very hard. I need justice," Salome said.
She maintained that her son's common-law wife and the woman's brother were responsible for his death.
Police have provided a different account of events. According to their preliminary investigations, Boyce was at a shop in front of his home when an argument broke out between him and his 31-year-old common-law wife, who was serving customers at the time. Boyce allegedly assaulted the woman during the confrontation, after which three male customers intervened. Officers said Boyce then produced a knife from his pocket, prompting the men to push him away.
When police ranks arrived at the scene, they found Boyce lying motionless in a pool of blood with what appeared to be a stab wound to the left side of his neck. A knife was recovered a short distance from the body and has been lodged as evidence.
Boyce was transported to the West Demerara Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. His common-law wife was also treated at the hospital and remains in stable condition.
A 38-year-old man from La Retraite Backdam, who was reportedly present during the incident, has been arrested and placed in police custody. Investigators have also identified CCTV cameras in the area, which are expected to be reviewed as the inquiry continues.
