Venezuelan couple found dead at Georgetown home in murder-suicide probe
Guyana police are investigating the deaths of two Venezuelan nationals whose bodies were discovered at a two-storey house in Georgetown on Saturday, jamaicaobserver.com reports.
Yuni Zamora Castro, 25, was found lying face up on the ground with 14 stab wounds. Her 60-year-old husband, identified only as El Tio, was found hanging from the roof of the property and had sustained nine stab wounds to his chest.
"Investigations so far revealed that the two deceased persons were reputed husband and wife, and they were living in a two-storey concrete house … with several other Venezuelan nationals," police said in a statement.
A 42-year-old Venezuelan woman told investigators that approximately four days before the incident, Castro informed El Tio that she no longer wanted to be with him, citing his jealous behaviour. According to the witness, El Tio subsequently approached Castro armed with a knife and stabbed her multiple times.
Officers were called to the scene and found Castro on the ground. El Tio was discovered hanging from the roof. Both were pronounced dead by Dr Pluck of Georgetown Public Hospital.
Police confirmed that a post-mortem examination established Castro had suffered 14 stab wounds, while El Tio had nine wounds to the chest area. Investigators have not ruled out further findings as the probe continues.
