Amphetamines found at Graignamanagh Daybreak after man drops drugs at till

A 37-year-old man accidentally dropped amphetamines worth €60 at the till of a Daybreak convenience store in Graignamanagh, Co Kilkenny, on 12 March, kilkennypeople.ie reports.

Adrian Dunne, of Curragraigue, Enniscorthy, Co Wexford, pleaded guilty to illegal possession of the drugs at the Borris Road premises. CCTV footage showed Dunne dropping something at the till; another customer picked it up and handed it to staff, who contacted gardaí at Thomastown Garda Station.

On analysis, the substance was confirmed to be amphetamines. Dunne subsequently admitted in a garda interview that the drugs were his.

Sergeant Morgan O'Connor told the court that a staff member had brought the substance to the station after it was handed in.

Solicitor Alex Rafter said his client had battled with drugs for three years but had recently completed a six-month residential treatment programme and was doing well.

"Anyone could have picked that up — it could have been a child," Judge Geraldine Carthy said from the bench.

The judge adjourned the case for several months, indicating that a suspended sentence would follow if Dunne maintained a drug-free path in the interim. The matter returns to court in May.
