A man in his 40s is in a critical condition at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda after suffering serious injuries during an attempted robbery in Dundalk on Tuesday evening, thejournal.ie reports.

The incident took place at around 8.30pm in the Muirhevnamor area of the town, where two men approached the victim and attempted to steal his e-scooter. Gardaí confirmed the man sustained serious injuries during the altercation and was subsequently transferred to Drogheda for treatment.

A man in his 30s was arrested in connection with the incident and is being detained at a garda station in the region. The scene in Muirhevnamor has been preserved for a technical examination.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses, particularly anyone present in the Muirhevnamor area between 7pm and 9pm on Tuesday who may have captured footage of the incident, including dash-cam recordings.

"Anyone with any information is asked to contact Dundalk Garda Station on 042 938 8400, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station," a garda spokesperson said.
