Officers from the Louth Roads Policing Unit launched a joint crackdown alongside Customs, Revenue and welfare inspectors, setting up roadside controls throughout the county before sunrise.

As reported by the Dundalk Democrat, officers stopped multiple vehicles and placed two people under arrest on suspicion of being over the alcohol limit behind the wheel. In addition, enforcement teams removed eight automobiles from circulation after discovering the owners had failed to maintain valid tax and insurance documents.

The initiative also carried a public safety message about post-drinking driving. Police highlighted that individuals can still exceed the legal blood-alcohol threshold the following morning, creating a serious hazard for themselves and fellow travellers despite any perception that the alcohol has cleared their system.
