Three held over Waterford family arson released without charge

RTÉ News reports that three people arrested in connection with a fatal arson attack in Waterford city have been released without charge, as gardaí continue their investigation into the deaths of four members of the same family.

A man in his 50s and two women in their 30s were detained by gardaí on Tuesday under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act — anti-gang legislation. All three, understood to have been arrested in the Waterford area, have since been released. Gardaí confirmed a file will now be forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecutions.

A fourth suspect, a man in his 20s arrested on Thursday, remains in custody.

Kim and Philip English, along with their sons Callum, aged 12, and Jayden, aged nine, died following an arson attack on their home in the Birchwood estate on 13 October. Two further children were critically injured in the attack.

Six people in total have been arrested as part of the investigation. Two others — Jessica Dalton, 31, of Waterford city, and Cian Stacey, 21, of no fixed abode — appeared before Waterford District Court on Tuesday. Both were remanded in custody and are due to appear again before the same court on 17 November, via video-link.

Gardaí stated that the investigation remains ongoing.
