Teen to face murder charge in retired cop's Princes Town killing
A 16-year-old boy is to be charged with the murder of retired police officer Anthony Hanson, who was found bound and dead inside his ransacked home on Marcano Street West, Princes Town, last month, trinidadexpress.com reports.
The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service said in a media release that advice to charge the teenager was received from acting Director of Public Prosecutions Anju Bhola on October 31. The teen is expected to be formally charged by WPC Rampersad and to appear before a Master of the Children's Court.
Hanson, 70, was discovered dead on October 11. A post-mortem examination at the Forensic Science Centre in Federation Park determined that he died from strangulation and blunt force injury. His hands and feet were bound at the time he was found.
It was his son, Dominic Hanson, who made the discovery during a routine visit. Dominic said he arrived at around 11.30 a.m. and rang the bell, but received no response. He then noticed a back door was open and contacted an aunt. As the two walked through the rooms, they found Hanson's body with clothing covering his face.
Dominic subsequently appealed publicly for justice following his father's death. He also reported that televisions and other appliances had been taken from the premises.
