BBC crew shot at in Grangetown during A66 organised crime investigation

Google News UK — Crime (en) reports that more than two weeks after a crash on the A66 dual carriageway near Middlesbrough killed seven people — among them two police officers — a large police operation targeting organised crime remains under way in the area.

BBC journalist Ed Thomas visited the Grangetown and South Bank districts of the city, which have become the focus of that operation following the tragedy. While filming, one member of the BBC camera crew was struck by a shot from a pellet gun.

Residents spoken to by Thomas described growing social issues in the area. One local expressed deep mistrust of authorities, saying they would "rather die than ring the police."
