Police are investigating an early morning arson attack on a derelict building in Derry. Nearby residents were evacuated but no injuries were reported.

Police in Derry are appealing for information following an arson attack on a derelict building in the Grainan Drive area, highlandradio.com reports.

Officers received a call at approximately 6.05am and arrived to find Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service crews already on scene, working to extinguish the blaze.

The building was unoccupied at the time and no injuries were reported. Residents from an adjoining property were evacuated as a precautionary measure.

The PSNI confirmed the incident is being treated as arson and said enquiries are ongoing. Officers noted that while no one was hurt, the outcome could have been significantly more serious.

Anyone with information, including CCTV, dash-cam or other footage, is asked to contact police on 101.
