A 38-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following a late-night attack at Liverpool Street Underground station, the Daily Express reports.

A man in his 30s was found on the Central Line platform at 10.51pm on Sunday 30 August with life-threatening head injuries. Emergency services attended and the victim was taken to hospital, where he remains in a critical condition.

The suspect was apprehended in East London the following day, Monday 31 August, and remains in custody.

British Transport Police (BTP) Detective Superintendent Sam Blackburn said the arrest represented "a key step" in the investigation. "Based on our enquiries to date, we are not seeking to identify anyone else in connection with this incident," he added.

Blackburn confirmed that specialist officers are supporting the victim's family. "Our thoughts remain with the victim and his family at this difficult time," he said.

Detectives are still appealing for witnesses who were on the Central Line platforms between 10.30pm and 11pm on the night of the attack and have not yet spoken to police.
