A one-year-old girl has died following an incident at a property on Long Street, Atherstone, on the morning of Friday 11 September, coventrytelegraph.net reports.

Emergency services were called to the address at around 11.50am after receiving reports that the infant was in cardiac arrest. Paramedics worked to save the child but she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Warwickshire Police confirmed that two people — a man and a woman — have since been arrested on suspicion of child neglect. Both remain in custody.

A spokesperson for Warwickshire Police said: "At around 11.50am we were called to a home in Atherstone to reports of a one-year-old girl in cardiac arrest. Sadly, despite us and our ambulance colleagues making every effort to save her, she passed away."

The spokesperson added that a scene has been established on Long Street and a partial road closure remains in place, with a significant emergency services presence continuing in the area. Residents have been thanked for their cooperation.

"We know many will find this news upsetting," the spokesperson said. "Officers will be in the area for the time being — please speak with them if you have any concerns."

Detectives are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the child's death.
