Baby S murder: four Slovakian nationals charged after infant found stabbed in Sheffield outhouse

Four people have been charged with the murder of Baby S, a newborn found with 33 wounds in a Sheffield outhouse. The suspects appeared at magistrates' court on Wednesday.

Four Slovakian nationals have been charged with the murder of a newborn girl after her body was discovered in an outhouse in the Wincobank area of Sheffield, the Daily Express reports.

Andrea Skopova, 20, Peter Horvath Jnr, 19, Peter Horvath Snr, 38, and Nina Horvathova, 37, appeared at Sheffield Magistrates' Court on Wednesday. Prosecutors told the court that Baby S — the infant's identity protected by legal restrictions — was found on Sunday 30 August wrapped in a towel inside a blue bag, placed on top of a washing machine in an outbuilding at an address in Holywell Heights.

Prosecutor Luke Hopkinson told the court that Baby S had sustained 33 wounds from 15 "separate stabbings", with injuries to her "face and torso — front and back". Skopova is the baby's mother, Mr Hopkinson said; the father is unknown, and Horvath Jnr — Skopova's boyfriend — is not believed to be the father.

All four defendants face charges of murder and causing or allowing the death of a child. Three of them — Horvath Jnr, Horvath Snr and Horvathova — are additionally charged with perverting the course of justice by cleaning the scene of the alleged crime. Horvath Snr and Horvathova are the parents of Horvath Jnr. All three reside at Holywell Heights; Skopova lives at Robey Street, Grimesthorpe, Sheffield.

A 15-year-old girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is separately charged with perverting the course of justice only.

Images published following the Wednesday hearing show the four adult suspects leaving the magistrates' court. The defendants were remanded in custody and were due to appear at Sheffield Crown Court for the first time on Thursday 3 September.

Two women, aged 26 and 37, who were arrested on suspicion of murder remain on bail.
