Bedfordshire Police inspector pleads not guilty to child sex offences, trial set for 2028

Google News UK — Crime (en) reports that a serving Bedfordshire Police inspector has entered not guilty pleas to three child sex offences at Northampton Crown Court.

Insp Scott Raghib, 45, of Elm Way, Hackleton, Northampton, denied two counts of engaging in sexual activity with a boy and one count of engaging in sexual activity in the presence of the boy. He spoke only to confirm his name and enter his pleas.

Prosecutors allege the offences were committed while Raghib was off-duty in 2005, when the boy was 13 years old.

Recorder Cameron Crowe set a trial date of 7 February 2028 and released Raghib on bail pending that hearing. A further pre-trial hearing was scheduled for 22 January 2027.

Raghib was arrested in June 2024 as part of an investigation conducted by Northamptonshire Police. He has since been suspended from duty by Bedfordshire Police.

During an earlier magistrates' court hearing, Raghib's address had been listed as Bedfordshire Police headquarters. At Thursday's Crown Court sitting, however, Recorder Crowe ruled that his home address could be published after journalists from the BBC and the Northamptonshire Telegraph raised open justice concerns.

The judge also directed that the child involved must not be identified in any media reporting of the case.
