Bedfordshire Police inspector pleads not guilty to child sex offences, trial set for 2028

A serving Bedfordshire Police inspector has denied three child sex offences at Northampton Crown Court. Trial is scheduled to begin on 7 February 2028.

Google News IE — Crime (en) reports that a serving Bedfordshire Police inspector has entered not guilty pleas to three child sex offences at Northampton Crown Court.

Insp Scott Raghib, 45, of Elm Way, Hackleton, Northampton, denied two charges of engaging in sexual activity with a boy and one charge of engaging in sexual activity in the presence of the boy. He spoke only to confirm his name and enter his pleas.

Prosecutors allege the offences took place in 2005, when Raghib was off-duty and the boy was 13 years old.

Recorder Cameron Crowe set a trial date of 7 February 2028 and scheduled a further pre-trial hearing for 22 January 2027. Raghib was released on bail pending trial.

Raghib was arrested in June 2024 as part of an investigation by Northamptonshire Police and has since been suspended from duty. During an earlier magistrates' court hearing, his address had been recorded as Bedfordshire Police headquarters. The judge ruled on Thursday that his home address could be reported, following open justice concerns raised by journalists from the BBC and the Northamptonshire Telegraph.

The judge directed that the child involved cannot be identified in media coverage of the case.
