Boy, 16, charged with Dungannon murder of Sidi Djalo and attempted murder
A 16-year-old boy has appeared in court charged with murdering 61-year-old Sidi Djalo in Dungannon and the attempted murder of two others. A mental health assessment has been ordered.
Teenager remanded in custody after Dungannon murder charge
A 16-year-old boy appeared in court in Omagh on Tuesday charged with the murder of Sidi Djalo, 61, at a house on Lisnahull Road in Dungannon, County Tyrone, BBC News reports.
Djalo's body was discovered alongside his eight-year-old daughter on Saturday morning. The girl sustained injuries in the attack; her mother, aged 48, suffered non-life threatening wounds.
The defendant, who cannot be named due to his age, also faces charges of attempted murder in relation to both the woman and the child, as well as making threats to kill. He was remanded in custody following the hearing.
The teenager spoke only to confirm his name, date of birth and address during proceedings.
BBC News NI understands Djalo was originally from Guinea-Bissau but had lived in Northern Ireland for more than two decades.
Defence solicitor Jarlath Faloon told the court there were "clear concerns" about the defendant's mental health. Faloon said the teenager had been examined by a mental health nurse over the weekend, though not at a psychiatric level. The judge ordered a full mental health assessment to be carried out.
The defendant is next due to appear at Dungannon Youth Court on 15 September.
