A 16-year-old has been arrested under the Terrorism Act after four viable explosive devices were discovered at a property in Omagh, Co Tyrone.

A 16-year-old boy has been taken into custody under the Terrorism Act following the discovery of four suspected explosive devices at a residential property in Omagh, Co Tyrone, the Irish Times reports.

Officers conducted a planned search at an address on Gardenville Avenue on Monday, during which the first device was located. A security cordon was established and a number of residents were required to leave their homes while ammunition technical officers examined the scene.

Three additional suspicious devices were uncovered as the search continued. The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) confirmed that all four items are believed to be viable explosive devices and have since been removed from the property for forensic examination.

The security alert in the town has since ended.

A PSNI spokesperson said the 16-year-old male "remains in police custody at this time" and urged the public not to speculate about the incident. "While the suspect has been arrested under the Terrorism Act, our investigation to establish a motive remains very much ongoing," the spokesperson added.
