Drugs buried at Creamfields site uncovered by police before festival opens

Cheshire Police have uncovered large quantities of illegal drugs buried underground at the Creamfields Festival site in Daresbury, days before the event was due to open, Google News IE — Crime (en) reports.

Officers conducting a pre-event search of the grounds discovered approximately 204 canisters of nitrous oxide — commonly known as laughing gas — along with large bags containing ecstasy, MDMA and ketamine tablets.

Superintendent Andy Blizard said the finds reflected a recurring pattern of behaviour. "Every year, we counter a number of brazen individuals who think they can outsmart us by concealing drugs from view or burying them at the site months in advance," he said.

Blizard confirmed that searches were continuing and that further finds were expected, leaving those responsible "very much disappointed to find them no longer where they left them when they arrive at the festival to dig them back up."

In an unusual appeal, Blizard asked those involved to come forward. "Anyone who has buried a rucksack or holdall bag at the site and would like it back is asked to get in contact with us," he said, adding that a zero-tolerance policy on drugs was in place.

More than 80,000 music fans are expected to attend Creamfields from Thursday. During the festival, Cheshire Police said officers would be working alongside event and security staff, maintaining a visible presence to prevent crime and disorder.
