Dungannon murder charge: boy, 16, remanded over death of Sidi Djalo

A 16-year-old has been remanded in custody charged with murdering Sidi Djalo, 61, in Dungannon and the attempted murder of his daughter and wife.

A 16-year-old boy appeared in Omagh court on Tuesday charged with the murder of Sidi Djalo, 61, and the attempted murder of two other people, Google News UK — Crime (en) reports.

Djalo's body was discovered alongside his eight-year-old daughter at a house on Lisnahull Road, Dungannon, County Tyrone, on Saturday morning. His 48-year-old wife also sustained injuries in the attack, described as non-life threatening.

The defendant, who cannot be named due to his age, faces an additional charge of making threats to kill. He confirmed only his name, date of birth and address during the brief hearing before being remanded in custody.

BBC News NI understands Djalo was originally from Guinea-Bissau but had lived in Northern Ireland for more than two decades.

Defence solicitor Jarlath Faloon told the court there were "clear concerns" about the defendant's mental health. Faloon said the teenager had been seen by a mental health nurse over the weekend, though not at psychiatric level. The judge ordered a formal mental health assessment to be carried out.

The defendant is next due to appear at Dungannon Youth Court on 15 September.
