Enfield fatal shooting: suspect altered appearance after Hertford Road attack

Metropolitan Police are searching for a man they believe "significantly altered his appearance" following a fatal shooting outside a pub on Hertford Road in Enfield, north London, bbc.co.uk reports.

Erdem Mustafa, 35, was shot dead at the scene last Monday. Detectives have since identified Abreham Woldegiworgis, 35, as a person they urgently need to question in connection with the killing.

CCTV footage captured at the time of the shooting shows a man wearing a grey beanie hat and a bright orange wig. Scotland Yard released side-by-side "before" and "after" images of Woldegiworgis on Monday, stating both pictures show the same individual — one with a beard, one without. Officers believe he has since made further changes to his appearance.

The public has been explicitly warned not to approach him.

A 23-year-old man was also arrested on Monday on suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder and remains in police custody.

Chief Inspector Allam Bhangoo said: "We remain committed to securing justice for Erdem as our thoughts remain with his loved ones at this unimaginably hard time."

Bhangoo added that while an arrest had been made, investigations were continuing "at pace" to establish the full circumstances of Mustafa's murder. "We are now releasing the details and images of a man we urgently need to speak to in connection with the incident," he said.

Police are carrying out inquiries to trace Woldegiworgis and are appealing to the public for assistance. Anyone who recognises him or has information on his whereabouts is asked to come forward. Investigators are also seeking any CCTV, doorbell, dashcam or mobile phone footage that could assist the inquiry.
