A four-year-old boy died after an off-road bike he was a passenger on collided with a car in Newark on Sunday. Two men have been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

A four-year-old boy has been killed in a collision between an off-road bike and a car in Newark, The Independent reports. The crash occurred in Churchill Drive on Sunday evening, shortly before 6pm, with the child travelling as a passenger on the bike.

Nottinghamshire Police said the bike was part of a convoy with a second off-road bike at the time of the incident. The rider of that second bike left the scene before officers arrived.

The 24-year-old man who had been riding the bike on which the boy was a passenger sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital. He was subsequently arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. Following further inquiries, a 32-year-old man was arrested on Monday on the same suspicion.

Detective Inspector Jamie Moore described the incident as tragic. "Our thoughts are with the boy's loved ones at this incredibly distressing time," he said. "They are being supported by specialist family liaison officers and kept informed about the investigation."

Moore urged anyone with information or relevant footage — including dashcam, mobile phone, CCTV or doorbell camera recordings — to come forward without delay.
