Two men were arrested on suspicion of burglary after a cross-border pursuit in Co Armagh, with Gardaí checkpoints preventing their escape south.

Two men have been arrested on suspicion of burglary following a high-speed car chase in Co Armagh, TheJournal.ie reports, with An Garda Síochána playing a key role in preventing the suspects from crossing into the Republic.

The incident began on Thursday afternoon when the PSNI were conducting an anti-burglary operation and initiated a pursuit of a black VW Golf on the Gosford Road in Markethill. The vehicle broke away towards the border at Newry at high speed.

Officers from the PSNI's air support unit and interceptors team moved to apprehend the suspects, supported by local police colleagues. Gardaí from An Garda Síochána were also involved in the operation, setting up border checkpoints that cut off the suspects' route south and prevented them from fleeing the North.

A man in his 20s was arrested on suspicion of burglary and a number of driving offences, including dangerous driving. A second man, aged in his 30s, was arrested on suspicion of burglary.

Both men remain in custody and are assisting with police enquiries.
