Jordon Ibe spared jail for assaulting ex-girlfriend in south London

Former Liverpool winger Jordon Ibe received a community order after pleading guilty to assaulting his then-girlfriend in Lambeth. He was fined £764 and ordered to complete 80 hours of unpaid work.

Jordon Ibe, the 30-year-old former Liverpool winger, has avoided a custodial sentence after being found guilty of assaulting his then-girlfriend outside her home in Lambeth, south London, mirror.co.uk reports.

Croydon Magistrates' Court heard that on 14 December, Ibe and Amie Mayson became involved in an argument during which Ms Mayson confronted him over money she said he owed her. When she pressed him for repayment, Ibe replied: "No, I'm going to be a pr*ck."

Prosecutors told the court that Ibe was carrying a bag containing drinks, snacks and flowers at the time. After Ms Mayson threw muffins on the floor and called Ibe a "druggy", he grabbed her by her hair, pulling out a braid and leaving her with a bald patch.

Ibe had denied the charge of assault occasioning actual bodily harm in March before pleading guilty in July.

On Friday, magistrate Brij Kalia sentenced Ibe to a 12-month community order, 80 hours of unpaid work and 27 days of rehabilitation activity. He was also ordered to pay a £764 fine, comprising £114 in surcharge and £650 in court costs.

Ibe, who represented himself at the hearing dressed in a black coat and black trousers, addressed the court directly. "I made a serious mistake," he said. "I understand it is wrong. I am genuinely remorseful. I've had to look at myself in the mirror. I cannot change what I did but will take responsibility for what I do next."

A victim impact statement read to the court on behalf of Ms Mayson described the lasting effect of the incident. "I want the court to understand the impact that this incident has had," it stated. "The assault has had a significant impact on me both physically and mentally." Prosecutor Ms Alshekhili told the court the attack had left Ms Mayson's confidence, self-esteem and self-worth "on the floor". Despite retaining "feelings of fear", Ms Mayson said she felt "compassion" for Ibe and that forgiveness had formed part of her "healing journey".

Ms Alshekhili also told the court the pair had been in an "on and off" relationship since late 2024 prior to the assault.

Ibe made 58 appearances for Liverpool and later had spells at Derby County and Birmingham City in the Championship before joining AFC Bournemouth in the Premier League. The former England under-21 international spent recent years playing non-league football before signing with Lokomotiv Sofia in the Bulgarian First League in 2025. He is based in Chislehurst, south-east London.
