A man and a woman, both in their 30s, are in police custody on suspicion of attempted murder following a stabbing in Newry on Sunday morning, breakingnews.ie reports.

Officers from the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) responded shortly after 6am to reports of an altercation at a property in the Woodhill area of the city, where they found a man with stab wounds.

The two suspects were arrested in the aftermath of the incident and remain in custody.

A PSNI spokesperson appealed for witnesses: "We are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the incident this morning, and I would appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time and saw what happened, or who has any information which might assist, to get in touch."
