A 46-year-old man has been charged with manslaughter and aggravated burglary after a 75-year-old woman died in hospital following a suspected break-in at a property in Finsbury Park, north London, BBC News reports.

Police were called to Tollington Park on the night of 11 August after reports of a burglary. Rose Smith was taken to hospital, where she died the following day. An 81-year-old man was also hospitalised but was discharged the next day.

Jeffrey Dean Rose, of Apsley Close, North Harrow, was arrested on Friday 21 August. He is due to appear at Barkingside Magistrates' Court on Tuesday.

Smith's family, in a statement released on Monday, described her as an "outgoing woman" who loved "bingo, going to cafés with her friends and, above all, spending time with her family."

They said the loss had been devastating. "She was the life and soul of every party. She had a wonderful personality, a big heart and a way of bringing laughter and happiness wherever she went," the family said.

"We want people to remember Rose for the person she truly was — loving, fun, kind, sociable and full of life."
