A 34-year-old man has been charged with murder, attempted murder and arson following a house fire in west London that killed a woman and sent eight others to hospital, BBC News reports.

Pawel Kulpa faces one count of murder, eight counts of attempted murder, and one count of arson with intent to endanger life. He is due to appear at Willesden Magistrates' Court on Tuesday.

The fire broke out at a residential address on Berkeley Avenue, Hounslow, at approximately 01:15 BST on Wednesday, 19 August. A 50-year-old woman, identified by the Metropolitan Police as Anna Kowalska, died in hospital. A second woman, aged 40, remains in hospital in a life-threatening condition.

Six men and one woman among the remaining seven patients were treated for minor injuries and subsequently discharged.

Lisa Ramsarran, chief crown prosecutor for London North, said prosecutors had established sufficient evidence to pursue criminal proceedings. "We have worked closely with the Metropolitan Police to bring this case to court, and we will continue working with them as their investigation progresses," she said.
