Arrest in Turkey over Moss Side double murder from 2020
A 36-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with the fatal shooting of two men in the Moss Side area of Manchester more than six years ago, bbc.co.uk reports.
Junior Ajose, 36, and Cheriff Tall, 21, were shot dead in the early hours of 21 June 2020 at an unlicensed gathering held during lockdown restrictions. Both men were found with gunshot wounds to the head in a car park off Caythorne Street, shortly before 01:00 BST, and later died in hospital. The pair were not known to each other.
Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said between 300 and 400 people were estimated to have been present at the car park that night.
The suspect was detained in Turkey and transported back to England on Saturday, where he was met at Stansted Airport by GMP officers. He remains in custody.
Detective Chief Inspector Neil Higginson, from GMP's major incident team, said: "This arrest demonstrates our unwavering commitment to securing justice for Junior and Cheriff and their loved ones."
Higginson added that over the past six years, officers had carried out multiple warrants, analysed evidence and examined seized devices while pursuing every available line of inquiry. Police continue to appeal for information to establish the full circumstances of the shooting and to identify any outstanding suspects.
A £50,000 reward remains on offer for information leading to the conviction of those responsible. GMP previously issued a public appeal on the fifth anniversary of the deaths last year.
