Officers attended the address on Wednesday afternoon after receiving a "concern for welfare" call. The victim, described as being in his 50s, is believed to have died several days before his body was found.

A forensic post-mortem examination was carried out on Thursday at Leicester Royal Infirmary. Detectives opened the murder inquiry following its conclusion.

The investigation is being led by the East Midlands Special Operations Unit.

Detective Inspector Cheryl Thompson said: "We're in the early stages of establishing how the gentleman died and I would appeal for anyone in the High Street area of Burton Latimer and who may have witnessed any suspicious activity in the last week to please contact us as a matter of emergency."
