Seven arrested after newborn found dead at Sheffield property

A newborn baby girl was found dead at a flat on Holywell Heights in the Wincobank area of Sheffield on Sunday morning, the Daily Express reports. South Yorkshire Police received a call raising concerns about the infant's safety at around 5.58am.

Officers attended the property and located the baby girl. Paramedics also responded, but the child was pronounced dead at the scene despite attempts to save her.

Seven people have since been arrested on suspicion of murder and remain in police custody. Detectives are working to establish the ages of some of those detained.

Detective Chief Inspector Emma Knight, the Senior Investigating Officer, said: "We are aware news of this will be deeply concerning and I want to reassure our local communities that we have a dedicated team of detectives and officers hard at work to ensure justice is secured for the baby girl at the heart of this investigation."

Knight added that the investigation is at an early stage and asked members of the public to refrain from speculation about the incident.
