Officer hit by motorcycle in Shoreham pursuit suffers serious leg injuries

A police officer sustained serious leg injuries after a motorcycle struck him during a pursuit in Shoreham on 23 August. A 21-year-old man has been charged with GBH.

A police officer suffered serious leg injuries after being hit by a motorcycle during a pursuit in Shoreham, The Argus reports.

Officers became aware of motorcycles being ridden dangerously in the area at around 5pm on 23 August. The bikes were followed to a petrol station on Brighton Road, where a motorcycle struck an officer who had stepped out of his vehicle to detain the rider.

Despite his injuries, the officer assisted colleagues in arresting both the rider and a pillion passenger.

Max Harvey, 21, of Buckingham Road, Shoreham, was charged with assault occasioning grievous bodily harm, driving whilst disqualified, and riding without insurance. He appeared before Crawley Magistrates' Court on Monday, 24 August, and was bailed with conditions to appear before crown court on 22 September.

The pillion passenger, a 17-year-old boy from Hove, was arrested on suspicion of motorcycle theft, assault occasioning grievous bodily harm, and possession with intent to supply cannabis. He has been bailed pending further enquiries.

Police are appealing for witnesses or anyone with mobile phone, dashcam or CCTV footage of the incident to report it online or call 101, quoting serial 908 of 23/08.
