Suspect description issued in Retford Cemetery sexual assault inquiry

Nottinghamshire Police have released a physical description of a man they wish to question in connection with a serious sexual assault at Retford Cemetery, lincolnshirelive.co.uk reports.

The incident is reported to have taken place between 3.30pm and 4pm on 12 December 2019. Detectives are continuing their investigation and have launched a fresh appeal for information.

Detective Inspector Amy Styles-Jones, of Nottinghamshire Police, said the man is described as white, aged between 19 and 25, approximately 5ft 11in tall, of slim build and with no facial hair. He is believed to have been wearing dark blue jeans and a black hooded jacket at the time of the assault.

"This is a complex investigation that requires a thorough approach and we are grateful to those that have cooperated with our enquiries to date," Styles-Jones said. "We are appealing for witnesses that may have seen or heard something in connection with the incident and are now able to release a description of a man who we'd like to speak to in connection with the report."

She added: "We would ask the public to continue to support the police at this time and encourage anyone to notify us of any information they have about the incident."

Detective Inspector Yvonne Dales, also of Nottinghamshire Police, had previously urged anyone who witnessed suspicious behaviour in the area to come forward. "We know that these incidents are very concerning for the public and I would like to reassure both the victim and the wider community that we are doing everything we can to investigate this very serious matter," Dales said.

She also called on the public to remain vigilant and report anything unusual immediately.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Nottinghamshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 424 of 13 December 2019.
