Tanzir Ali, 27, of Glencoe Road, Sheffield, shot the 16-year-old victim on London Road at approximately 17:15 GMT on 24 November last year, Sheffield Crown Court heard. The boy sustained life-changing injuries as a result of the attack.

Ali had previously admitted possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence, but denied attempted murder. A jury found him guilty of that charge on Wednesday. He is due to be sentenced on 18 November.

CCTV evidence proved decisive

South Yorkshire Police said officers secured "vital" CCTV footage following the incident, which captured the exact moment of the shooting. During the trial, the court heard that Ali had claimed he had not intended to pull the trigger and did not know the weapon was loaded.

The CCTV evidence told a different story. Footage shown in court tracked Ali's movements in the minutes before, during and after the attack. It showed him in the company of several others, engaged in an altercation with the victim, before pulling a gun from his pocket. A loud bang was then heard and the victim was seen falling to the ground. Further footage captured Ali returning the firearm to his pocket and fleeing the scene.

Accomplice booked hotel under false details

After the shooting, Ali fled Sheffield and travelled to Aberdeen. He was later arrested there alongside Sharna Osborne, 24, of Duthie Terrace, Aberdeen, who had booked a hotel for the pair using false details.

Osborne was tried separately and found guilty at Sheffield Crown Court on Thursday of assisting an offender — a charge she had denied. She is also due to be sentenced on 18 November. Both Ali and Osborne were remanded into custody ahead of their sentencing hearing.

Senior officer: 'Lives changed forever'

Greg Dakin, senior investigating officer, said the attack had left a lasting mark on both the victim and his family.

"The boy's family were forced to endure the pain of waiting at his bedside, not knowing if he would pass away from his injuries," Dakin said.

"Over the course of this investigation, we have had the victim and his family at the forefront of our minds, and I am glad we have helped secure justice for them."

Dakin added that Ali had "attempted to kill a child and then fled hundreds of miles away in a cowardly effort to escape the consequences, aided by Osborne."

Ali is set to be sentenced at Sheffield Crown Court on 18 November.
