Teen, 16, charged with murder after Dungannon stabbing leaves man dead

A 16-year-old has been charged with murder following the death of a 61-year-old man in Dungannon, Co Tyrone. An eight-year-old girl injured in the attack remains in a stable condition.

A 16-year-old boy has been charged with murder, two counts of attempted murder, and threats to kill following a fatal incident in Dungannon, Co Tyrone, on Saturday, the Irish Times reports.

The body of a 61-year-old man was found at a house in the Lisnahull Road area at around 11am. The man, who has not been named, is understood to have been from Guinea-Bissau and had lived in Northern Ireland for more than 20 years.

An eight-year-old girl injured during the same incident is in a stable condition in hospital. She had been in a critical condition earlier, before police officers at the scene gave her what detectives described as "a fighting chance of survival."

A 48-year-old woman, understood to be the deceased man's wife, was also injured but has since been discharged from hospital.

Detectives from the Police Service of Northern Ireland's major investigation team confirmed the charges in a statement on Monday night. The teenager, who was arrested over the weekend, is due to appear before Omagh Magistrates' Court on Tuesday.

As is standard procedure, all charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.
