Teen stabbed to death at Brent Civic Centre, Wembley — boy, 15, arrested

Fatal stabbing at Brent Civic Centre leaves community shaken

David Wynter, 17, was stabbed to death at Brent Civic Centre on Engineers Way, Wembley, shortly before 2.30pm on Tuesday, The Independent reports. A 15-year-old boy has since been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody, the Metropolitan Police confirmed.

Emergency services were called to the civic centre — which houses both Brent Council's headquarters and a public library — after violence broke out on the premises. The London Ambulance Service dispatched an ambulance crew, paramedics in fast response cars, an incident response officer and London's Air Ambulance. Despite those efforts, Wynter was pronounced dead at the scene.

Brent Council leader Muhammad Butt said staff, residents and visitors were present when the attack took place. "Today, Brent has been shaken by an appalling and deeply tragic incident at the civic centre, in which a person has lost their life," Butt said. "Our thoughts are first and foremost with the victim, their family and loved ones, as well as the staff, residents and visitors who witnessed what happened." He also praised council staff for showing "professionalism, compassion and calm" in what he described as "the most difficult of circumstances".

Superintendent Chris Clarke said the stabbing had caused "significant concern" in the local community but sought to reassure residents. "We would like to reiterate that officers do not believe there is any wider risk to the community," Clarke said, adding that a police presence remains in and around the crime scene.

Officers have been granted a Section 60 order — giving them enhanced stop-and-search powers in anticipation of potential serious violence — until 3.30am on Thursday. The order covers the Wembley Park, Barnhill, Tokyngton, Stonebridge, Roundwood, Dollis Hill, Willesden and Welsh Harp wards within the London Borough of Brent.
