Two men and a teenage boy have been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder following a shotgun attack in the centre of Braintree, bbc.com reports.

Officers were called to Market Place at around 22:10 BST on Monday after what Essex Police described as a "targeted attack" involving two groups.

Two teenage boys suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries to their faces and upper bodies. Both required ongoing medical treatment, according to Essex Police.

The three arrested are two men from Chelmsford — aged 18 and 23 — and a 17-year-old boy from Braintree. A 16-year-old previously arrested in connection with the incident has been released on police bail until 30 November. A man not believed to be connected to either group was also injured in the attack.

Officers subsequently recovered a shotgun and ammunition.

Detective Inspector Frazer Low said the arrests followed "days of intensive work by officers and staff", adding that police are not seeking anyone else in connection with the incident.

Low said investigators believe the attack is linked to a dispute connected to criminal drug activity, but stressed that inquiries have established that none of those injured were involved in that offending.
