A man and a teenage boy have been arrested after a 46-year-old was shot at a house in Gainford, near Darlington, on Saturday evening.

The incident occurred at approximately 20:10 BST on Saturday, when suspects allegedly fired at a property on Balmer Hill before leaving the scene.

A 46-year-old man sustained birdshot injuries to his abdomen and remains in a critical but stable condition. Durham Police confirmed no other occupants of the address were hurt, and officers remained at the scene.

Both suspects are in custody. The teenager faces additional charges of theft, failing to stop, and driving without a licence.
