Google News UK — Crime (en) reports that two people have been arrested on suspicion of murder after a man was discovered shot dead in Ecclesall Woods, Sheffield, on Wednesday evening at approximately 18:45 BST.

The victim, who has not yet been identified, was found by a member of the public. A post-mortem examination subsequently confirmed he died as a result of a gunshot wound.

South Yorkshire Police said a 34-year-old woman and a 36-year-old man were arrested in Manchester on Thursday. Both have since been bailed, while the investigation "continues at pace", the force said.

Detective Chief Inspector Andy Knowles, who is leading the inquiry, described it as "a devastating incident which has led to a man losing his life", adding that officers' thoughts remain with all those who knew him.

Knowles urged members of the public who may have recorded footage in the area to come forward. Officers are particularly keen to hear from anyone who captured activity near the woodland, or who noticed vehicles behaving suspiciously, on the evening of Tuesday 1 September or Wednesday 2 September.

"We are looking for anyone entering the woodland, leaving, or vehicles being used in a suspicious manner," Knowles said. "I urge you to get in touch with us."

Anyone with information or relevant footage is asked to contact South Yorkshire Police.
